Montevetrano Description
Montevetrano takes its name from a medieval castle that dates to Roman times. A former property of the French Bourbons, the estate itself was the inspiration for this blend of French varietals with the Campanian king of red grapes - Aglianico. Pleasing scores of wine lovers around the world with its distinctive character and rich spectrum of flavors, Montevetrano is one of the most sought-after wines from Italy.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Aglianico, and Merlot
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby-red in color, aromas of blackberries and spices complement undertones of black currants, licorice, tobacco, earth, and leather. On the palate, Montevetrano is full-bodied, yet elegant with fine-grained tannins and a rich, silky texture.
James Suckling: 92 Points
This is a rich, modern wine with so much vanilla and berry character. Full and chewy.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
The 2011 Montevetrano is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico and 20% Merlot. This has been the blending configuration since 2010. Back when the wine was first made in 1991, Cabernet Sauvignon was by far the greatest part of the blend (at 90%), but the native Aglianico grape has slowly grown in prominence over the years. This great Campania-blended red shows very nicely in the warm vintages such as 2011. It reveals dark and succulent fruit flavors with bold cherry, blackberry, mild spice and leather.
Vinous Media: 92 Points
Dark ruby-red. Vibrant but reticent aromas of dark berries, cedar, cola, mint, sweet spices and underbrush. Concentrated and fine-grained, with harmonious acidity providing lift to the oak-influenced flavors of dark berries, licorice and herbs. This Montevetrano offers early appeal but also has the capacity for a leisurely evolution in bottle.

Wine Spectator: 91 Points
This dark, compact red boasts cassis, blackberry reduction, cedar and grilled herb notes on a full frame, with assertive woodsy tannins marking the spicy finish. Best from 2014 through 2020. 2,500 cases made. — NW
