Domaine Armand Rousseau Description
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of the most esteemed wine producers in Burgundy, France, renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits, particularly in Gevrey-Chambertin. Founded in the early 20th century by Armand Rousseau, the domaine quickly gained a reputation for its dedication to quality and its pioneering role in estate bottling—a rarity at the time. Today, under the direction of Eric Rousseau, the domaine continues to be family-run and upholds a traditional, minimalist approach to winemaking, emphasizing terroir expression and longevity. Their holdings include some of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, such as Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, and Clos Saint-Jacques, with wines that are known for their elegance, depth, and age-worthiness. Domaine Armand Rousseau is considered a benchmark for classic Burgundy and is highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs around the world.
Decanter: 95 Points
Rousseau's 2022 'classic' village-level Gevrey (as opposed to the Clos du Château) is a spectacular introduction to the range – as good as most of the premier cru wines from this village. There is immense depth of flavour, with notes of black cherry and pomegranate with a floral edge and shadings of earth and leather. The texture is surprisingly dense for a village-level wine, and the finish is impressively long. This wine is a blend of eight parcels, including several premier cru plots, and the result is a noble reflection of the village of Gevrey.
Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points
As usual, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a touch deeper and more structured than the Clos du Château, exhibiting notes of sweet red berry compote and plums mingled with spices and vine smoke. Medium-bodied, supple and penetrating, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, it includes fruit from premiers crus Perrières and Etournelles Saint-Jacques.
