Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of the most esteemed wine producers in Burgundy, France, renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits, particularly in Gevrey-Chambertin. Founded in the early 20th century by Armand Rousseau, the domaine quickly gained a reputation for its dedication to quality and its pioneering role in estate bottling—a rarity at the time. Today, under the direction of Eric Rousseau, the domaine continues to be family-run and upholds a traditional, minimalist approach to winemaking, emphasizing terroir expression and longevity. Their holdings include some of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, such as Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, and Clos Saint-Jacques, with wines that are known for their elegance, depth, and age-worthiness. Domaine Armand Rousseau is considered a benchmark for classic Burgundy and is highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs around the world.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A fluid, vibrant red, offering pure flavors of cherry, raspberry, graphite and incense. Beautifully balanced, with well-integrated tannins and a lingering aftertaste of fruit and savory herbs. Showing excellent length, this is approachable now.
Decanter: 93 Points
The ‘classique’ Gevrey (unlike the village-level Clos du Château) is a true ‘cuvée ronde’ that incorporates (this year) eight parcels from around the village, including three premier crus. The initial attack shows pure, expressive ripe cherry aromas with floral and earthy complexity. The ripe fruit continues on the palate; the wine is darker and more substantial than the Clos du Château while still showcasing the pleasantly light and fresh character of the vintage.
Burghound: 89-91 Points
This is also cool and very fresh with its combination of red and blue pinot fruit, forest floor and vague suggestion of the sauvage. The supple and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess a bit more volume while exhibiting slightly better length on the smoky, long and balanced finale.
Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Village opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries, spices, expresso roast and orange zest. Medium-bodied, supple and perfumed, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and powdery tannins, it's a touch deeper and more structured than the Clos du Château.
