Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of the most esteemed wine producers in Burgundy, France, renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits, particularly in Gevrey-Chambertin. Founded in the early 20th century by Armand Rousseau, the domaine quickly gained a reputation for its dedication to quality and its pioneering role in estate bottling—a rarity at the time. Today, under the direction of Eric Rousseau, the domaine continues to be family-run and upholds a traditional, minimalist approach to winemaking, emphasizing terroir expression and longevity. Their holdings include some of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, such as Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, and Clos Saint-Jacques, with wines that are known for their elegance, depth, and age-worthiness. Domaine Armand Rousseau is considered a benchmark for classic Burgundy and is highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs around the world.
Wine Spectator: 95 Points
Macerated cherry, strawberry, rose and chalky mineral aromas and flavors highlight this sleek yet firmly structured red. This is balanced, combining elegance and power. Always stays on the graceful side through the long, detailed aftertaste.
Burghound: 91-93 Points
This is the first wine to display any appreciable level of reduction and in this case it’s enough to dominate the underlying fruit. Otherwise there is good detail and excellent punch to the beguilingly delicious, intense and focused medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the mildly austere, beautifully complex and solidly persistent finish. I like the potential of this balanced effort that should amply repay extended cellaring if desired.
Vinous Media: 91-93 Points
The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a perfumed nose and is rather floral in style. Traces of blue fruit and pressed iris flower combine succinctly with the red fruit. Again, there is wonderful delineation here. The palate is medium- bodied with pliant tannins. It's cohesive and smooth in texture, nothing weighty. The 2021 might lack density for some, but it is so harmonious and charming that you won't be able to resist.
Wine Advocate: 91-92 Points
Firmer and more compact than the supple, expressive Cazetiers, the 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru delivers aromas of cassis and plums mingled with notes of rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and tensile, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, it will require a bit of patience.
