Chateau du Trignon Description
The wine estate of Chateau du Trignon was acquired in 1895 by Joseph Roux and run by his descendants until 2007, when Pascal Roux, a passionate winemaker, who had kept the quality of the wine at the highest levels, sold the vineyard to another esteemed Rhone Valley winemaker, Jerome Quiot , who also owns and runs Domaine du Vieux Lazaret in Chateauneuf du Pape and Domaine Houchart in Provence. The wine is made from 150 acres of vines in five villages: Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Sablet and Beaumes de Venise.
Tasting Notes: This Gigondas offers a rich bouquet, with fine, fruity and spicy aromas and a sunny color ranging from ruby to dark garnet. The nose reveals a bouquet of red fruits and very ripe black fruits. On the palate, the Gigondas is full-bodied with a fleshy attack. The Grenache Noir releases all the expression of its power in this shimmering red wine with marked tannins, a structured body and a great aptitude for aging. Syrah and Mourvedre reinforce their garnet color and spice up their aromas.
James Suckling: 92 Points
Welcome to Black Fruits Central! However, time has moved this in a surprisingly crisp and gentle direction for this appellation, which is associated with weight and opulence. Lovely freshness at the elegantly maturing finish. Almost no perceptible alcohol, in spite of the fact it’s got 14.5%. This is an impressive achievement.
