Rough Rider Description
Long Island Spirits, founded in 2007, is a craft distillery located on the east end of Long Island, in Baiting Hollow, NY. The distillery is surrounded by 5,000 acres of potato farms, in the heart of the North Fork. Home to over 50 wineries and many family-owned farms, the area’s long agricultural tradition provides the key ingredients for Rough Rider Bourbon and Rye, as well as Pine Barrens Single Malt. Long Island Spirits is truly a farm-to-bottle craft distiller operation in a unique setting producing spirits with quality and integrity.
THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME ROUGH RIDER WHISKY
In 1898 Teddy Roosevelt, a native Long Islander, organized the United States First Volunteer Cavalry known
as the Rough Riders. This disparate group of men shared a common purpose – the pursuit of adventure,
independence and excellence. The distillery at Long Island Spirits and the product crafted there, just miles
from where the Rough Riders disbanded, embodies the same fearless spirit as these men and their leader.
Rough Rider Straight Bourbon Whisky is carefully handcrafted and aged in new American oak casks for a minimum of two years followed by an extra maturation in Merlot and Chardonnay casks from award-winning wineries and rinsed with high-proof Brandy.
FLAVOR PROFILE
Rough Rider Straight Bourbon Whisky is floral to the nose with an incredibly smooth and well-rounded sweet flavor. Complex hints of caramel, vanilla and spice with a finish that is savory, supple and encored by a heady heat.
Ultimate Spirits Challenge: 94 Points
Bright and spicy on the nose with hints of chewy caramel, milk chocolate, and toasty orange peel. The palate is round and rich with roasted peanuts, baked apricot, and dried fig flavors balanced by a nice acidity and a hint of pepper. Very nice.
