In 1990, Rudy and Rita von Strasser purchased a historic vineyard in the Diamond Mountain region of Napa Valley. Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1970, the property was originally run as Roddis Cellars through 1984, but had since slipped through the hands of absentee owners. Through much work and expansion, they have modernized the property with new vineyard spacing and trellising systems, and increased vineyard size to approxiamately 15 acres. The varietal breakdown is currently 8.5 acres Cabernet (various clones), 1 acre Petite Verdot. In addition to the vineyards, they retrofitted an old barn built in 1880 to serve as the winery for their estate wines. This year caves were dug into the hillside behind the winery. The von Strasser brand premiered with the 1990 vintage, and is a brand which is dedicated to producing wines only from our Diamond Mountain appellation. The lineup consists of an Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, and Estate "Reserve" wine which premiered with the 1995 vintage, and a Chardonnay, made from a small 2.5 acre vineyard further up Diamond Mountain Road.
