Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg
Run today by sisters Marie-Andrée and Marie-Christine, this spectacular domaine encompasses 14 hectares of holdings in five different communes. After the death of Georges Mugneret in 1988, the domaine was amazingly close to being sold; miraculously, the would-be buyer, at the last minute, advised Georges’ daughters to use the know-how their father had gradually given them and try to carry on the domaine themselves. The results ever since have been nothing short of extraordinary. The sisters produce wines that, more than nearly any other domaine in Burgundy, reveal the nuances of their individual terroir. They carefully select only perfectly healthy fruit through both meticulous vineyard work and post-harvest table sorting, and they employ new oak extremely judiciously.
This generous and smooth Nuits has accents of Vosne, and a greed-inducing nose and palate a true delicacy, with undertones of rich black fruits and ripe tannins. more
